Real talk, I never skated. No, I was the BMX kid that broke his permanent front teeth trying to do a 360 off the curb but I always sweated skateboards -especially the artwork- and there was never a shortage of dope skateboard art in the 80’s and 90’s. While my collection is modest it doesn’t prevent me from drooling over the thousands and thousands and THOUSANDS of boards that have released over the years which brings us to Universe & Rizzoli’s latest gem 1000 Skateboards. Following Universe’s 1000 Sneakers and 1000 Tattoos, 1000 skateboards is described as “a definitive collection of the world’s most iconic skateboard designs, complete with history, engineering, collectability, sports and pop culture trivia, and graphics.”
It really is a great book not only for seasoned collectors but also for those just getting into collecting or wanting to know more about the history of skateboards, riders, anatomy of a modern skateboard and more. Admittedly I was surprised that Vision’s iconic Psycho stick skateboard wasn’t featured in the book but there are a ton of other iconic boards that were.
