Die hards need no explanation but for those of you that do, here it goes. In 1992 Nike’s answer to Reebok’s street basketball shoes – the Blacktop Line- was Nike’s Air Raid. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, promoted by Spike Lee and worn by Tim Hardaway the Air Raid followed the “X’ trend of the time period and coincided with the Malcolm X movie that released that year. Part of that campaign was a ‘Live Together Play Together’ – a slogan that was meant to promote harmony between people of all races and ethnicities during a time that followed the Rodney King riots and a ton of racial tension-. It was this peace sign (which was found on the Nike Air Raid 2 that released in 1993) and its the design that Olivia Kim chose for a small collection in collaboration with Olivia Kim. While this shirt is in women’s sizing only (which boggles my mind because men -especially die hard shoe enthusiasts- are the main demographic for this design. Nonetheless you can pick up this gem now (and on sale) via SNS.
