The current generation knows of the Avia at their local discount spot but if you grew up in the 80’s and early 90’s you remember a much different Avia, one that was pumping out dope shoes and heavily watched by brands like Nike and Reebok. The Avia 980 featured a bilateral lacing system, and eslasticized gore in the upper that stretches and therefore should improve comfort and fit. They came in sizes 6 1/2 – 14 (so for you big guys out there you stay on the hunt for a pair) with a dual density compression molded EVA poly wedge in rearfoot, carbon rubber in cantilever outsole, themoplastic with external plastic support heel counter (love those plastics) and weighed 12 oz’s. At $80.00USD they weren’t cheap and finding a set some 25 years later will be a MISSION. Expect to pay 90-250 for a brand new pair in a good size in a decent colorway (sorry ladies there was no woman’s version).
