I can remember like it was yesterday. It was 2000, I was a full time college student working at night as a CSR rep. At about 7:00 PM I get a call on my cell from a good friend of mine and proceed to take a much needed 15. “Yoooo your not going to believe what I just saw at the Athletes foot in Sunrise Mall”. What? I replied. “The Reebok Omni Lite Pump.” Your not serious I said. “YUP.” With only 30 minutes left on my shift I knew exactly where I was headed after work, the mall. Seven thirty couldn’t come quick enough, but when it did I hopped in my car and sped over to check it out (why I was in such a hurry is anyones guess its not like people were camping out for them) but I was hyped. I get up to the Athletes Foot and there they were. With zero hesitation I picked them up, and by the next day they were on my feet. I’m sad to report that they didn’t stay in the collection very long however. Either my memory is playing tricks on me or the first retro of these timeless classics was really really bulky. Since I wore Khaki’s to work and spent 5 days a week there I was bothered (at the time) by the shoes bulkiness and decided to sell them off a year or two later. Over a decade later the sale still “haunts” me. Retro’s of this shoe (in this colorway) that would succeed the first batch never quite felt the same.
