With this year being the year of the snake and all, DeFY. figured it was a great time to look back at one of the best releases of the Jordan XI EVER. That release of course is the Jordan XI snakeskin low, but before we get to them lets go through a little history of this iconic shoe. Most know that the original Jordan XI released during the 1995-1996 season and came in one cut (hi cut). During that same season the Jordan XI I.E. released which was a low top variation of the Jordan XI with a change in design (it wasn’t just the same looking shoe as the Jordan XI high with its top cut off). In late 2000 Brand Jordan begun re-issueing the original Jordan XI in the OG colorways into 2001. Nike/JB then proceeded to do something they had never done before (atleast for the public that is) which is to take the original Jordan XI and make it into a low top. The result was complete success. During the summer of 2001 it seemed that everyone and their mother had a set of Jordan XI lows. Before the summer hit though, they went one step further and released a snakeskin XI, foregoing the shoes signature patent leather in lieu of faux snakeskin. The responses were mixed. You either loved them or hated them, but some 12 years later I’m almost certain that most love them now! Retail was 120 bucks (keep that in mind when you drop 400 on a new pair today) and they didn’t sell out. Matter of fact they went on sale and slowly disappeared. Being the purist I tend to be and with money not growing on trees and such I never picked up the snakeskins but always admired them when I caught someone wearing them. To this day, outside of the OG colors and the cool grey’s, the snake skin Jordan XI low are still one of the best XI’s of all time. Take a trip back above and pretend you can still buy these for $120.00 😉
